Programmer
Has anyone had the experience of having to print to a dot matrix lately? I have the situation where we are converting from an old dos program that prints extremely rapidly on a Large Utility Printronix printer. It's function is to print High-Speed and Multiple copies on carbonless 4 to 6 part paper. This kind of paper output will not change in the near future. So the answer is not in switching to a Laser printer.
Currently (from old DOS) it prints text on the page at a rate of about 1 page per second. When I use VFP7.0 (Report Designer) it prints quite slowly by comparison. Perhaps 4 seconds per page, reminiscent of the old "Near Letter Quality" printing. I surmise the DOS was quicker because it's like the days of 80 exact columns and 66 exact lines.
Is this a question of modifying the FRX memo fields, or embedding Printronix Escape codes?? It's unacceptable to have an increase in print processing duration; i.e. A job that would run for 3 hours, now taking upwards of 12 hours. That won't fly; even if letter clarity/quality is better.
HELP.
