Imagine this:

You copy or save a file on the a: floppy.

Then you 'dir' or check in explorer and the file is present!

Some later, or on another computer the file is gone! Ie I cannot copy files from this computer to a floppy.

Have tried another disk drive and several disks.

Hardware? Anyone??

Interesting problem...

1. Scan hard disk AND one or two of the floppy disks you've been using, for viruses.

2. Take a clean boot disk, and see that the computer will boot successfully on it.

3. After successfully achieving Nbr.2 above, still at the DOS level, take a known clean blank disk and see if you can copy some files to it. Reboot machine into DOS again and check those files are still there.

4. If not, then maybe BIOS is set for floppy drive to read only.

5. Try changing the floppy drive ribbon cable.

Sometimes one or the other floppy drive is slightly out of alignment, and therefore can read disks formated by it, but not by another. I don't know if this applies to your situation or not.

Thanks for useful tips!
The ribbon cable was broken and I spent half a day on virus and files :(
