Son installed downloaded games (bad) and now boot video (like bios stuff, hit del to change, anti-virus, defrag) is scrambled up to when wallpaper appears. Also cannot go to DOS mode either upon reboot via DOS or by run command. Uninstalled games (and son) but problem persists. All ideas will be appreciated.

If not much time has elapsed, I'd boot to the command prompt only, type scanreg /restore and pick a date prior to when the games were installed. There is 5 restore points and hopefully one will still exist from before the games.

Sound like two probelms. Reseat your VGA card and check connections. Update your Anti-Virus!!!!

Good luck!

Thank you for the tips. Can't boot to the command prompt either by restart in dos mode or with a diskette since the dos display is scrambled. Once it gets to the wallpaper, the system is okay. I'll try the vga card next.

FYI. After replacing video card, monitor (borrowed items), updating anti-virus, drivers, and my son, I just opted to replace the motherboard. Thanks to all for suggestions, but things break.
