Hi all, I have two xp pro pc's on a network that print to each other’s printers Oki 321. They print via the net use command “net use lpt2 \\username\oki321 “under windows they print fine and quick but dos (dir > lpt2) can take up to 30 seconds has anyone come across this problem I have other users that are fine.

This tip is on this site, may be worth a try?

Faster DOS Printing

If you are experiencing slow printing for DOS programs with Windows2000

Go Start | Run | Regedit
Click Hkey_Local_Machine
Click on System
Click CurrentControlSet
Click Control
Go to the bottom of this part of the list and click WOW
Click LPT timeout and change it to a 3

hi linney, Thanks for the reply I have already tried this fix with no luck It's just between these two pc's and I cant understand why? I mapped the two printers to the server and it prints as soon as I press return very strange I'm sure it's somthing to do with either the firewall settings or software previously inslalled.

Joe.

Hi, Joe

Do those machines have a physical LPT2 device? If so, configure it as LPT1.

Is there a windows printer defined as a network printer using the same port? If so disable spooling (print direct).

If you throw out a form feed char after your pint data does that cause it to print sooner?
