I have two new workstations on my network with Windows XP as the OS. The server NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 6.0. The DOS applications are two accounting packages, AccountMate Premier (Foxpro 2.6 for DOS), DBF file format) & Skyline ( CC+, Btrieve). The printer is a multifunction Gestetner 3222e printer manufactured by Savin using Ricoh and HP print drivers with an IP address.
I can connect the legacy DOS applications using to a Panasonic HK 1624 dot matrix printer and both applications print all reports that I tested.
I can connect the Gestetner printer to each workstation and print in Windows applications.
I can connect the Gestetner printer to LPT 2 or LPT3 (both applications accept LPT2 & LPT3) on the workstations. The two legacy DOS applications do not print to the Gestetner printer.
the error message on the server is "Error - Printing to LPT#." I have called and called the Gestetner & Rich printer people and have not found a single technician who will admit to knowing of the existence of Windows XP.
The may be new drivers for the printer or there might not be new drivers for the printer. There may be new firmware for the printer there might not be new firmware for the printer. Some technician say yes, some say no. This is a $6500 that I will not make the mistake of purchasing again.
Any suggestions???
