Domains and Laptops

Okay, I am not quite sure how to word this so I am sorry I haven't been able to do any research.

I am working on setting up an NT domain (using Samba) at my house. Now I have a laptop I would also like for it to join the domain, however, when I am not at home it can't join the domain (obviously). Is there a way to keep one user profile on my laptop so I don't have to have two accounts for myself? One for at home and one for being away. I don't like the idea of having to make sure both profiles can access whatever I need on my laptop.

Any ideas?

I have a similar setup using a Win2k domain, the users are controlled by AD, i can still login and access all my files even if i am not connected, not only this but as my domain DNS is configuered to use DHCP i am able to plug my laptop into standard broadband router configed with DHCP and use the internet connection.

I have not got much experience with NT so i am not sure, i would reccomend upgrading to a later version of software OS iehter 2K or 2K3 as these support AD, you can download a 365 day trial from microsoft.com

The configuration of the Win XP laptop should be pretty easy, however i am not sure how it behaves with an NT DC, try upgrading to a AD OS and it should make things alot easier.

Describe what you want to do with your laptop while you're away. Are you looking to join another domain or workgroup at a different location?

When you are away, you will still be able to log onto your domain account with a cached account.

I just want to use my same settings when I am at a friends house as I would if I where home. I will look into the cached account. Does that work in 2000 as well?
