How do I make Windows 2000/03 Server a domain without having to use Active Directory?

I'd like to use my server as a simple authentication server that runs a logon script and creates a local path. I don't need the headache of Active Directory involved.

Can't have a domain without Active Directory.

You can just create accounts on the Windows 2003 stand alone server. Keep all clients and server in the same workgroup.

Joseph, can I log in to the Windows 2003 stand alone server via network desktop and have the scrips run without AD?
