Im trying to set up the domain trust between me and my friend thats connected via Tunnel on our routers. We can definitly ping each others server internal ip address. Why is it saying, "Can't connect to the domain, If this domain is a windows domain trust, it can't be set up until the domain is contacted. If this is an interoperable non-windows Kereros realm and you want to set this side of the trust, click ok.

I hit ok and now its set up for my friends domain under domains that trust and trusted domain. Is this correct or what? What next?

that is not correct. the problem is that your DC's are unable to resolve each other's names/services via DNS. short of working on actually correcting your DNS issues, you may be able to use HOSTS and LMHOSTS files to fix this problem.

Can't I just add a new foward lookup zone in DNS to point to my friends domain name? That's what I did and now when I ping his domain name it points to the internal ip address that he has for his DC. Let me know if this is the correct way of doing it. If not where woudl I add the LMHOSTS or Hosts? Under my foward lookup zone?

Have a secondary zone of each other.
DNS1, DNS2

Make on DNS1 a scondary zone of the one from DNS2.
And vice-versa (DNS2 to have a secondary of DNS1 zone).
