Does anybody have any experiance with renaming a domain?
We have a single domain called synergyworks.local which is now to be shared between synergyworks & the parent company thoroughbred in our office complex known as woodlands. For this reason we will rename the domain to woodlands.local

Are there any major points i need to take note of?
How do I use the domain rename tool i downloaded from MS?

My biggest question is how do WindowsXP clients stay joined to the domain if its name changes? I do have to remove and re-add them? Seem's rather lengthy?

If you have windows 2003 domain you can rename the domain, if you have windows 2003 interim mode you can not.

This is not a easy thing to do!

Try looking at this and it should point you in the right direction.

This may help

The whitepaper for 2003 domain rename is about 68 pages long. It is not a process to be taken lightly. In many cases, if you absolutely need to rename a domain, creating a new domain and using ADMT to migrate is much easier.
