Got a little problem...
I login to the NT server domain from a Win2k pro machine, but cannot get access to network resources. (Network drives). -- I am prompted that drives can't be mapped. I cannot browse the network either. I can acess the internet, and email through the network, and IP printing.
First test, I login to another machine. Everything works fine. So, I know the problem is with my machine.
It seems that my domain profile on the local machine has been corrupted. So, I backued up the profile (copy to..) and manually copied my personal settings off.
I then login as "Administrator" on the local machine, and try to delete the "\domain\myuser\" account, but the "Delete" button is grayed out. (Permissions were set properly to the directory too) So, I try to manually delete the files. I receive the message "Access denied. make sure the drive isn't full and that the file is not in use". I did a little research. Microsoft states that the file could be in use due to a service starting with that user account. After checking the services, I have concluded that it is not the case.
Shouldn't the Administrator account on the local machine have all of the rights necessary to remove the local domain profile?

Is there a utility that displays what files are in use in a given directory, and what/who is using them?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

when you say the "\domain\myuser\" account - you mean \Documents and Settings\domainusername folder on local machine (or \Documents and Settings\username.domain, if user name exists on local machine too)?

If so, you probably just need to take ownership of this folder (and the tree below it) as Administrator, and give yourself full access to it. Should then be able to delete it.

PS. When logged on as local Administrator, can you access/see the rest of the network?

Yes, you are correct about the location of the profiles.

I did check the premissions of this folder, and have full control of it, yet still cannot delete/rename it.

Local Administrator only has access to the local machine, not any network resources.

Have you tried shutting the machine completely down and logging in as the administrator before attempting to delete the profile?

Dillinger99,

You are the man.

Sure enough.... some files must have been still tied up after logging off from the other account. I had rebooted earlier, but only before the login of the domain account.

Thanks for the excellent post!
