I am running a 2000 server as a domain controller for my home next work as a project. I have 3 workstations on the domain each running XP. 2 of these can see the domain and acess the shared files etc. 1 of them can not. I have added it (the Computer) and the main user to the users and computer and done everyting I know how to do. It can not find it. I have reset my router and even switched what slot it plugs into just to try something. All my computers have static IP's. Any clues?

Also I can ping the server and recieve a packet back.

Is the XP Firewall or another personal firewall on the system that cannot access the server?

ok. assuming they're on the same subnet, try removing the computer from the domain by going through the "Network Identification" property sheet (change it to workgroup, and give the workgroup some name like test). Make sure the computer account is removed from the domain on the DC, and then attempt to add it to the domain again through "Network Identification" on the client machine. You shouldn't need to create the computer on the DC, you will just need the username and password of someone who is authorized to add a computer to the domain (usually just the administrator). You shouldn't need to touch the user account. I have seen issues where the client computer has had to be readded to the domain. So, basically, take it off of the domain and then readd it. You might also want to take a look in Event Viewer for entries.

I already put it on a different workgroup and removed the listing from the actice directory. Also both computer have been reformatted since I thought this might be a software problem. Also what would I be looking for in the event viewer?

There may be messages that state that you have exceeded the number of licenses, or any sort of message that may relate to the issue (i.e. contain the host name). It's hard to say exactly what kinds of messages you might see. Also, where is DNS pointing to? Point DNS on the client to the Windows 2000 DC. You're running AD so you most likely have DNS running...

Try using FQDN of your domain. ex. use microsoft.com instead of microsoft only.
