Hi, we will be changing our domain name soon, but need to know how easy this will be and if there is anything we should be aware of....

Our current setup constists of around 15-20 servers and 400 users (Win98 & Win2k). We run a WinNT 4.0 Domain and the server are WinNT 4.0 and Win2k. We have a PDC and a BDC and use Exchange 5.5. The other servers constist of files servers, SQL servers...

Hope you can advise...

Andy

Andy,

I will have to tell you that renaming the domain will require a lot of work and prep work on your side prior to the implimentation. There are a lot of good articles out there on what you have to do but this one is a very good detail oriented article of what you have to do prior, during, and after.

Hope it helps and I hope that you are renaming the domain for a good reason!

I've personally never had luck going into the network ID of a Win2K machine and just changing the domain name and have it pop onto the new one.

Windows 98 was great - just change the logon in the MS network box.

windows 2000 pro - had to drop it down to a workgroup, reboot, hop onto new domain. -= Beer is food! Is it suppertime? =-
