Receiving the 'No Domain server available to validate logon' message.

Win 95 PC based across a WAN link on a subnet of 10.44.0.xxx
NT4 Server PDC is in main location on a subnet of 128.44.6.xxx.

Network is purely TCP/IP, but we have Token Ring in The Main Location and Ethernet in the site with the 95 pc.

ping works, but i cannot get the pc to logon to the domain.
not using wins either.

Cannot browse anything on the ethernet site from the TR site. I suspect something is going on across the WAN, but as to what I don't now.
Any help is much appreciated.

Is the default gateway set up properly? I can see that those computers are on different subnets therefore if you are able to ping the server there is obviously connectivity. Make sure that your gateway is configuared correctly so the Win9x machine knows that it needs to go outside it's subnet to authenticate.

The default gateway is set up as the router for that site.
There are a number of win 2000 pc's that are set up with the same gateway and they connect fine but I cannot get a pc (no matter the OS) to join the domain across the WAN.
I have to configure the pc 1st at the main site then change the ip/gateway settings when I install it there. The pc involved had no problem jjoining the domain at the main site, but as soon as I switched it, no joy.
The dfault gateway at the main site is set as our router which is connected to our Frame Relay Network.

Are you suggesting that I set the default gateway so that it matches the main site?

Sounds like you may have the default gateway set up properly. Are you using Static or Dynamic IP addresses. If you are using Dynamic try releasing and renewing and get back with me. If you can ping the BDC or PDC from the remote location chances are your gateway is set up right. There is a chance the IP has expired in alot of cases if its dynamic so try the release and renew.

The remote site has static ip and the main site has dynamic.

Double check the scope of the DHCP server and make sure you haven't used an IP that is already reserved. There is definately connectivity so it's nothing physical with the WAN site or with the gateway. All signs to me point to IP address. Get back to me if the DHCP scope has none of the same IP's.

Personally I would let a DHCP assign addresses. This may take awhile depending on how busy the server is and also how many people are trying to get an address at the sametime.

I'll give it a go over the weekend and see what happens.

Setting the pc to a dynamic IP address results in the 'Unable to resolve IP address...' error on startup of windows. So there is still something preventing the pc from accessing the server. I re-installed another machine with 95 and have the same problem, but in Network Neighbourhood I can see all the machines on the domain, but if I try to access any that are on the main site, I am presented with an 'unable to access resource' message. I have installed this machine exactly the same as the previous one.
Anybody got any other ideas?
