I was attempting to create a new domain in a new forest but inadvertently created a new root domain in our main forest. I Demoted the domain controller and uninstalled DNS from the machine. Our main forest is still showing the now defunct domain.

So when I go into Domains and trusts I see company.local (the original) and newdomain.local (the domain I was creating) The new domain does not show up in users and computers or anywhere else. It does show up in the domain dropdown when loging in.

Is there something I am missing to remove it entirely?

Thanks in advance

as long as the demotion was clean it should clear itself out. NTDSUTIL would be your last resort if it doesn't go away.

I would first of all try rebooting the server & clients if poss. Probably just a stale record lurking around.

NTDISUTIL with a little help from Microsoft Knowledgebase on "Removing Orphaned Domains" and all is well.

Thanks
