Hi all

Had some problems authenticating with a 2003 domain controller this morning. Found out that the computer account has gone missing from the domain. Is this a big problem to add back in as its a domain controller, simply add the account back in our am I going to experience bigger problems?

Any help would be greatly received.

Sorry, it's not a domain controller as thought, but a member server. How should I go about adding it to the domain again? Move it to workgroup and simply add it again?? Will I lose all share permissions etc??

Thanks

If it's just a member server there should be no problem just putting it in a workgroup and readding it to the domain. (MAke sure your reset the computer account for it in Active Directory first though). All permissions, once rejoined to the domain, should be in-tact.

You can use netdom to reset it and hopefully avoid the need to remove and re-add from the domain.

NETDOM RESET machine /Domain:domain [/Server:server]
[UserO:user] [/PasswordO:[password | *]]

NETDOM RESET Resets the secure connection between a workstation and a domain controller

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
