Does the Merlin really use all eight wires?

I remember years ago you could dispense of the brown pair.
Yes? No?

TDL - Blue Pair Only
MLX - Blue and Green Pairs, Brown also if you have a DSS or MFM
ATL - Blue, Orange, Green. Brown to the Blue pair of the next port if you want OHVA
ETR - Blue and Green Pairs
Single Line - Blue Pair only

All assuming that the jacks are wired 568-B

Intersting TTT, not sure what all the abbreviations are... Merlin KSU designations?

Types of phones that can be connected to Merlin Legend and Magix.

A brief explanation of same:

TDL - Two Wire Digital Line - Originally USED WITH MAGIX

MLX - Multi Line Extension - Originally USED WITH LEGEND, can be used with MAGIX

ATL - Analog Telephone Line - Originally Used with ORIGINAL MERLIN System, can be used with Legend, but not MAGIX

ETR - Enhanced Tip and Ring - Originally Used with PARTNER, can be used with some LEGENDS and MAGIX.

As I recall, white/blue is the primary voice pair, white/orange is the power pair (48VDC), white/green is the data pair, and white/brown is the aux voice pair. White/brown wasn't absolutely necessary, but you lose the off-hook voice announce feature if it's not used.
