I just installed a netgear router on my homecomputer and was wondering how I could test if it is working properly? I use to have Norton Firewall but was told a physical firewall is safer.

thanks

See if you can connect to the internet through it. If you can then yes, it's working!

Lets put things simply here.. any firewall can work and any can be hosed if the configuration is incorrect.

The black box firewalls tend to work better since they do only on thing.. block or pass packets. They are not having to contend with CPU time, rogue appliations and little Timmy clicking everything in sight trying to get his games to work.

Just my hard won opinion :)
