We are in the process of impletementing the exchange server. I was told that the exchange server must be set up on the main domain controller. Is this true?

I don't like the idea to have exchange server on the main domain controller. Can we run exchange server without putting it on the main domain? Any ideas???

No, only time XC2003 should be on a domain controller is when you are using Small Business Server.

Running it on a member server will work just fine as long as it has good access to a global catalog server.

Agree exhange does not need to be installed on a DC. separate server for exchange would be better. You could run exchange on a dc if you only had the one server, or if it was a dc at a remote site and exchange was required for the locate users, again if not other server.

You will not get any real issue with exchange on a dc if configured correctly.

but try and keep separate if possible. preformance and all.
