Does Exchange rpc over http require two seperate exchange servers?

Greetings,

From all Microsoft documentation I have read it appears that Exchange RPC over HTTP requires two seperate servers, a front end configured and a seperate back end configured server.

Is this true or has anyone sucessfully setup a single server rpc over http solution?

You can definitely do it with one Exchange server.
