Does a monitor need a INSTALL driver?

I want to replace my Compaq MV720 monitor with a used, but larger, Gateway VX1100 monitor. Do I need any special install driver to make this Gateway monitor work with my Compaq Presario 5000 P/C? I am assuming that it does NOT but I am not sure. The Compaq P/C has Windows 98 SE O/S.

There is to choices of drivers for monitor.
Plug and play monitor driver.(included in win)
Manufacturers driver.

Without you might not be able to set correct resolution and refresh rate for your display.

gateway 2000
vx1100 is one of the monitors listed.

so in theory at least, you have a driver for that monitor on your win98se cd.

Except that this is Windows 95 .
Not sure if the Gateway VX1100 is included in w95 driver database .
If not the 98 driver can be used as it is also 95 compatible .

Jerry - windows will normally install a perfectly acceptable default (like 'plug & play monitor' mentioned) - but you may get more options on refresh rates and resolutions (and more accurate ones) if you can get hold of the manufacturer's driver.

Thanks to U all. I BELIEVE the Gateway VX1100 monitor is indeed a "plug & play" but just in case !!! I might just try to check Gateway web site to see if I can find a possible driver download. I will try all your suggestions. Meanwhile ,I sincerely apprecicate the assistance from you all.
