I am looking for a utility which can extract the same information that is shown in Macromedia Extension Manager from my collection of extensions that are not installed and dump to file (delimited txt, excel). I think it would be usefull to know all the details that are shown in the extension manager prior to installing. For example I would like to select a dir with all my extensions and extract all info I can get out of the extensions.

I can write such a utility if understand the format of the extensions (i.e. internal record/extension structure)

Hi WSPanic!
each extention is differnet and location of its "help" file depends on the creator...some extentions are Objects, some are Behaviors...and are installed in appropritate folders.
The utility that will show INSTALLED extention is Extention Manager...that will show you the info....those extentions that are not installed...well...u create a list as u downloaded them, u can't "sniff them out" as they are packed into single file that will not reflect any siginificant info..it would be the same as looking at "setup.exe" and 'knowing' what programm it will insall based on only the fact that you know the name of "setup.exe" file.....
If u need a utitlity to give you reports on "folder and its contents" look into :All the best!

Yea Thanks... Dang... So only Macromedia holds the secret. They are binary as I have looked at them in HEX Editor. Would be nice to be able to document all your extensions installed or otherwise. At least if Macromedia's extension manager was be able to allow you to save named extension groups containing specific extensions for task at hand that would help. Then the manager should allow selecting deselecting individual and/or grouped extensions to activate/deactivate.

right...I think u would be wasting time as the extentions are "packed up" and can consist of a few files (including the 'description(html)' )
If I was you...I would install them and copy-paste the info fromm Manager (when selected) and then simply save that info in some txt file alog with the extention.....also, if u get the extentin from MM_ or any MM_Certifed site they sould have a little description alng with download of it....
extention world is left to developers so MM_people dont really care to develop any "extra tools"
....Good luck!
