I'm not sure how to explain what I am trying to do, but here goes. I am working on a data-base that someone else set up, but it does not work the way we want it to work. I am very new to ACCESS and have been trying to teach myself some stuff (I am working on getting some one on one training), but in the meantime, I am hoping to get this set up the way we want.

We have a data-base to track when we send something to our contractors. The data-base gives each document a unique number. We fill in info regarding the date and the item that was sent. I want to set up the form so that it does not allow anyone to go into a document number that has been created and change the information. So, first I need to know how to do that. However, we do occasionally send the report to our contractor and then get it back from them to make revisions. When we send the revisions back, I want to be able to go into the form and update the information, but keeping the old information - kind of like a second page that shows the revision info, but when I print off the form, I want it to have the info from both the original submission and the revised submission. Do you know how I would do this?

Thanks,

If you're the only savvy user in house--that is, the only one who will know how to change properties, just change the locked property to Yes for the text box that displays the number--you'll see it but won't be able to enter or edit within it (assuming the data entry/access is strictly through forms--on that note also change the view property for the form to form/single record only--no datasheet). You can always change the property back to allow your own editing. You'll also have to keep people from the tables--how adept are your users?

The users are not savvy at all. They just go in and fill out the info - would not know how to change the properties. Thanks for the advice....I went in and did this, and it will work! Do you have any advice the second part of my issue?

THANKS!

For the Second Part: you can create a history table which is a duplicate of the original table but without the data. Then every time you update the info in the main table, store the old info in the history table.
Sandeep Anand
sandeep@matatechnologies.com
<a href= Technologies
visit
