I have a form that saves the results of filters to variables in increasilngly long SQL statements By clicking on a button in an option group initiates a docmd.applyfilter that uses the variables to reapply a filter. I've begun getting an error message that the "apply filter action was canceled." When I created the form the function worked perfectly, but now it does not.

Can anyone suggest how I can get this working again/

Hiya,

I'm no Access expert, but I do know some programming rules.

Can you intercept the string that contains the filters?

e.g. can you set an event to display the filter string in a msgbox? Or perhaps pass it to a temprary memo field so that you can count the characters?

128 is the max default character setting for a string data type, so 128 may well be the max for filter strings.
You may count 256 or 512 or 1024, but the filter limit WILL have a limit.

Just an idea - but there IS a limit.

Regards,

Darrylle
