Hello

I have upgraded our database server from 256mb to 1gb memory, do I need to make any adjustments on the server?

Thanks

JP

What are you using for Database? If you are using SQL or Oracle, I beleive that you need to adjust the amount of memory allocation.

Yes, you will also have to increase the size of your paging file for NT.

We use SQL, what would be the best size for paging file?

JP

It doesn't matter what you are running on the server. For NT4 server, your optimal page file size is the amount of memory plus 11, expressed in MB. So in your case it should be 1035.

You should see this in the recommended field in the Virtual Memory settings. If you stray from this number in either direction you can see memory error messages.

Actually you want to set the MINIMUM size to amount of physical ram + 12 mb to allow a memory dump if the system crashes. But the maximum is typically anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 times the amount of physical memory. Also setting the the minimum and maximum to the same size is a common practice to optimize performance so the file will not have to be enlarged. Since you are running SQL I would recommend a paging file around 2 gigs for the min and max.

Thanks for thr replies, I will increase the paging file to 2Gigs as ephol suggested.

Thanks
