I'm trying to figure the best way to setup the ISA server, is my understanding correct, that is, that the ISA server sits with 2 nic's one connected to the router and the other connected to the switch that the lan and the other systems are on?

Also, I have 5 static IP address's that I've been using for a web server, an email server, and name servers, assuming that my previous config is correct, would the ISA server route the static IP's to the internal servers?

Thanks in advance for your reponses.

not clear about your question, but I am sure you know you can only use an IP address once.

So your ISA box will have an IP address showing to the router, and have a totally different IP address on the interface showing to your switch.

Then the static IP addresses on your web, email and name servers are all different IP address - none being the same IP used for your ISA box.

As for the actual traffic flow, if that was your question, traffic would be passed along via your router and hit the ISA box. The ISA box would then allow specified traffic to the specific destination, and route it out to the switch and then to the appropriate server.

I knew that about IP address' I just havent set up the isa server yet and was trying to understand how the static ip address are in the big picture, I read somewhere else that they used another netword card for each static IP and then one for the local lan. That just didnt make sense to me and wanted to make sure. Since I need to have atleast two DNS servers available I wondered how isa server handled servers that needed to be public.

thanks in advance.
