I am receiving many emails that are being returned undeliverable but I never sent them and they are from people I don't know. Strangely they are often related to my business. Is it possible that my computer is sending out messages even though I have firewall and regularly updated virus protection?

Many thanks for any clues.

At the same time, several people have sent me emails that never arrived. Is the whole system going to implode and become useless and unreliable?

I also get such emails stating NDR's all over the place. They usually arrive with the latest 'security' patch from 'Microsoft', supposedly the NDR emails are to give you the impression that something is wrong so you install the worm attached to the 'security' email from 'Microsoft'.

dibeach, check your firewall logs and run a couple of online scans faq760-3862 to be sure, but you probably don't have a virus. Most modern virii & worms fake the 'from' header information in their message to trick the recipient and hide the true sender. Then, when a message is undeliverable, the mail server bounces it to whoever is in the [spoofed] 'from' field.

As far as e-mails never arriving to you, there are a number of possibilities including: Any mail filters that you ISP may have in place, any mail filters/rules on you local machine, mail server blacklists, and even an incorrect e-mail address.
