do I dare delete the INFAMOUS log files?

We are backing up the system on a daily basis. Having said that at the same time our log files are growing. Does VERITAS V 8.6 for NT/2000 not delete the log file once it is done with the BACKUPS? I am trying to avoid the circular logging feature.
