I placed a web server in my DMZ and I want to be able to pull it up in a web browser by name. I placed it's name in the DNS server in the AD. It resolved from inside the firewall, but not from outside the firewall. How can I get the name to be resolved when I am outside the firewall?

Add it to your public DNS server. Is your AD server registered as your public DNS server?

lgarner,

How can I tell if my ad server is registered as a public dns server?

If you go to you can use the DNS lookup and pick the NS record. That will show what your public name servers are. If it is an IP on your PIX then you are hosting it. Make sure your static and ACL are correct for the name resolution. If it is not, go to your hosting company and have them add the DNS record you want.

Also, if your DMZ isn't addressed with a public IP range, you'll probably need an external DNS server, such as your ISP's, to provide the public NAT address to the world. I think with FOS 7 you can get away with using the public address for both internal and external clients.

I found that I will need to get with my ISP to add my server in their dns system.

Thanks for all you help. This is why I love Tek-Tips.
