I have 2 DNS Servers at my company site and One of the DNS Servers is a Root Server.

We are a Active Directory Domain with 2 Domain Controllers which are the DNS Servers for the Site.

My Question is that if my Root DNS goes down will users be able to access the Internet with the Root Server down?? I do have both DNS Servers forwarding to our ISP's DNS Servers on the Internet.

I tested this last week and a user explained that she could not access the internet while the root server was taken off line?

We need the ability to connect to the Internet if we experience a problem with a Root DNS Server. Also both DNS Servers are Running Integrated Zones.

Please Advise,

Thanks.......MIke

Have your clients pointing to your own dns servers, and have your dns servers pointing to themselves and your isp's. Unless you don't have a ups, chances are both your dns servers won't go down together. Good luck.
