Hi All;
Set up a new server to manage our phone system. It runs AD, IIS, DNS, RRAS, and is PDC for the new domain. There is a single client PC, also Win2kServer, that is a member of the domain.

The problem I'm having is frequent messages in the App log, stating:

Event 40592: Event from Netlogon, Attempt to update DNS host name of the CO in AD failed. The parameter is incorrect.
and
Event 40592: Event from Browser, Unable to retreive a list of servers from the browser master (PDC name) on the network (device name). The data is in the error code.

But, of course, the error code just says the same thing.

The System log is filled with these:
Event 5789: Attempt to update DNS host name of the CO in AD failed. Parameter incorrect.
and
Event 8021: Unable to retreive list of servers.

I've run the Google gamut, checked eventid.com, and although I've eliminated all the other errors, I haven't been able to get rid of these.
Does anyone have some ideas of things for me to try? Like I said, this is a new install, it's already running some of our tasks so I can't just nuke and rebuild, but apart from that it's working fine.

The network setup on the client PC is for the PDC to be the primary DNS server, and our LAN server is the secondary DNS. Both PCs have entries in the DNS records of our LAN server.

I don't know what else to tell ya... please give me some ideas! :)

Thanks!
Cerv

Was the other server the PDC before you added the new system? If so, did you tell it that the new unit is now the PDC? Have you checked the DNS names/numbers to be sure they are correct? Did you tell the old that the new is now the primary DNS server?

That's all I can think of.

Best Regards,
David Tracy

Hi DTracy;
Thanks for the reply.

Both systems are fresh installs, and the client was not a PDC. I built the PDC first and then added the client.

The client correctly lists the PDC IP as the primary DNS server (as listed in ipconfig). The DNS Suffix is blank, as required by our telephony software.

Our LAN server is set as the secondary DNS server.

Any other ideas? :)
