Hi, I’m having problem with the internet. Keep getting the page cannot be displayed message although I can clearly see I am connected. I try to ping yahoo.com from the command prompt and it fails, but when I ping the IP address for yahoo it works. Any help would be really appreciated as I may get fired if I cant fix it :)

Cheers

if you are using microsoft proxy server iis4 or 5 , get microsoft firewall client, it will bypass proxy settings.

Definitely sounds like a DNS issue to me. Out of curiosity, what is your ISP? What's your network setup (LAN, Routers, ETC)?

Try entering the IP address in the browser and see if the page loads. If it does, then more than likely you need to configure DNS settings.

Hi cgogg, not sure how to configure DNS settings properly, i had a go at getting the machine on our work LAN but failed and gave up. Im sure I must have messed with somthing but cant figure out for the life of me what it is. Best guess id that the machine is pointing at the LAN DNS server but i dont know how to change it back. Thanks for all help !

ps.
(im only trying to use a dial up modem to connect)

You'll want to go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network. Here, double-click TCP/IP for your dial-up adapter or modem (you may have several listed here; that's normal). Go to the DNS Configuration tab and disable it. Most dial-up ISP's don't need you to enter information here.

Good luck...
