Hi Guys

I have a site that uses Windows SBS 2K3 Server, remote access and Web Outlook. The IP address and URL construct for the users is a bit complicated and I wanted to create a DNS record that would direct the user straight to the required webpage e.g.

to;

can setup the CName for webmail ok, but I cant see how I can get the port and path added to the lookup:

Can anyone help please?

Regards
Jerry

That is because DNS is only in charge of the name to ip.
The best DNS can do is map my.ip.add.ess to webmail.mydomain.co.uk. BTW, do you mean https in the first URL? And non https in the second?

If you just mean standard http running on port 443, then
you should be able to setup a virtual host on webmail.mydomain.co.uk listening on port 443. Then either using rewrite rules or even a redirect to another virtual host,

Hi Gene

I guessed as much - thanks for that. Yes I did mean https - smiles, thanks for pointing that out

So you COULD setup a SSL site that simply redirects to the non-ssl site. But because you must do the SSL handshake first, the site would have to have a certificate installed, and be a "real" https site, not just a http server bound on 443. Seems to be lots of work to just do a redirect/rewrite, but it is doable.
