I know what the problwem is I just don't know how to fix this.

I enter the A record for my website whitch is suppose to resolve to my IP address when I senter it into DNS.

Well this is what happens I enter it, it works for a few hrs and then I log back onto the site (for example mail.brettums.com) and I get no page found. I can hit the site via IP, but not when resolved...... what is killing me is I know that I enter the A record, but for some strange reason the darn record is gone when I look for itin DNS.

Why???
I'm not having the record be trashed if there is no activity for X amount of time.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Are you adding the IP address to the primary DNS server, or to the secundary DNS server of your domain ?

HOw long does it take before the record dissapears ? Peter Van Eeckhoutte

primary DNS...

and it takes about I'll say an hr or maybe even less.
I was doing a few tests I thought the A record was being removed due to "duplicate" names
ex. mail A record and another mail A record, but slighted with different IP address, one internal and one public (to the world)

Then I did this... made a completly different A record name, and that too failed.... is there a max. limit to the # of public A records that can be stored in the primary DNS?

I'm out of ideas.....

I hope this info helps even more

I have seen something similar, but only when you boot the machine. Try checking to see if you have "updated the server files", (in the dns manager, right click the name of your server and select update server files). I had included a new domain, and then later booted the machine, when it was up and running again, the record had gone, I then realised the server file hadn't been saved with the alterations.

Hope this helps.
