DNS issue ERROR:Root hints list has invalid root hint server

After active directory was prepped and the Dc upgraded to windows 2003 from windows 2000 I have problems with the root hints and it says it is not a valid DNS server. I ran a dcdiag test on dns. Not sure how to go about fixing it. Most posts say don't mess with root hints.
