Hi All,

I have a client that setup a 2003 server with AD and the name they chose for their internal domain name is already owned by a real internet domain name and its causing some problems. How can this be fixed? Renaming the domain is NOT an option. Thanks

What's the problem? Could you provide more details? If you have correct DNS settings, internal networking should work fine. The only problem I can tell is when you use the internet and go to the same domaiin name.

This doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when you try to connect to a member server by name it won't work and then it will. When it doesn't work. If I ping the server by name it comes back with a public ip address not the correct internal address ie, 192.168.x.x. There is no website on this public ip, but when I do a nslookup on it the same domain name comes up as this companies internal domain name. Does that help.

All dns points to the dc and there are forwarders setup to the isp's dns servers.

The problem is your forwarders. If you remove them you will no longer have the problem. If your running a DNS server then you really dont need the forwarders. Then again if you have a Host record that points to your internal DC server and your clients only use your internal DNS, you should be fine as well. Your clients will use the DNS server that respones first. Clients should only use the forwarders is your internal DNS server has no record.

I saw many issues like this. I should have a document about this issue but could not find it mysefl. posting ipconfig /all here may help. also, assuming all clients point to the internal DNS, you may check "Use this connection's DNS suffix" in DNS registration under client DNS. (you should not need to do that if you have correct DNS settings.

I have five windows 2003 servers. The main DC server runs DNS, it ip range is 192.168.0.xxx. I have a windows 2003 web server in a dmz on ip address of 10.0.0.1. From the clients machines I can see the server in IE if I type in the IP address but cannot by name. I am assuming I need to add an entry into my DNS records?? Is this correct and if so what ip should I enter the internal address or the external address and what type of record should this be as I have tried a few things and nothing seems to work.
