Hello Chaps,

First time configuring a DC, seems to begoing well, have managed to promote to a domain etc, having issues DNS and DHCP.

Got any tips, as i say have never done this before, could use a step by step guide, didnt find the FAQ's much help, what settings do i add to the TCP/IP setting on the NIC in the server?

Cheers, Rob

Common DNS settings mistakes

1.The domain controller is not pointing to itself for DNS resolution on all network interfaces. Especially, when you have multihomed server, the WAN connection may be assign 127.0.0.1 as DNS ip.
2. The "." zone exists under forward lookup zones in DNS.
3. The clients on LAN do not point the DNS to internal DNS server.

Thanks for the quick response, however i am unable to connect a client to the domain, when i add them to the domain using the computer ID pannel i get the following message.

"

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain rosshouse.local.

The error was: "DNS request not supported by name server."

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.rosshouse.local

I have this client NIC set to retireve all IP's automatucaly, do i need to change this?

Did you follow steps one and two that ChicagoTechNet posted above?

Also make sure that the DNS suffix is set correctly on the DC: right-click on the my computer, go to the computer name tab. Click on change, then more and make sure it says rosshouse.local.

Sure, have managed to get myself rather confused on this one, may need some step-by-step guides.

Is thier any specific order i need to install apps and config of the network card TCP/IP on the server.?
