Hi

We are having problems with a DLL file on our server.

It does not have a Security Tab on its properties, so i cant take ownership.

The folder it resides in inherits its access properties but when I try to override this and apply properties or take Ownership I get access denied.

An app on the server requires access to it and I cannot get access to it.

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks
B

First thing you should find out is getting a search on the particular dll to ensure that it is a legit .dll. Second, I would come up in safe mode. Or even run process manager to find out if the .dll is being used by a required service (like RPC). Any policies prohibiting "administrators" from taking ownership?

Hi

Thanks for your posts.

I have ended up installing the software in another folder as a temporary measure.

Thanks

I've had this problem once or twice. The only way around it was to define the permissions using group policy - it seems that the local system account was able to change the permissions. Then once I had access to the file I was able to remove the policy again. No brillant, but it works !!
