Distribution lists and receing external email

I have a proble here - I need three generic email addresses 1@domain.com 2@domain.com and 3@domain.com to be able to receive mail externally and then forward this mail to 5 people within the business. I thought DL but I cannot mail from external account to that DL - right? - can internally. Second I thought mail enabled user - cannot forward mail to more than one user. So do I have to create a mailbox enabled user and an eqivilant DL and forward mail to the DL?

In the AD, you should be able to create a group, put members in it, and assign it an SMTP address. Once you do that, you will be able to send mail to that address and the members of the group will get it. It's pretty simple. Just try it.

If you are running SBS2003, add groups to the folder in AD called "Distribution Groups."

I have done that - DL , assigned smtp address, populated it and sent an email. Internal mail sent the members get the mail, from an outside source nobody gets the mail!!. My DNS is fine and address book so whats wrong??

Have you hidden the DL email address in exchange and do you run some kind of anti spam software?

If this is the case, your anti spam prog may not recognise hidden addresses and therefore treats it as an unknown address and puts it some where else (usually in a folder some where).

I had this scenario and didn't have a clue where incoming emails were going until I told the prog to send any email where the address wasn't known to me.
