distorted web pages

okay, so I'm not sure if I'm in the proper forum, but...

I may have had a power outage last night, 'cause my clock is flickering and my pc was off.

The problem I'm having is I cannot view web pages now.
I don't believe it's the browser, 'cause it's the same for IE 5.5, Netscape 6.2 and Opera.
Also, I can view my development web sites locally.

So, I'm guessing it's my OS, Windows 2000 Pro.
I know I have all the latest patches and upgrades.

On these web sites, I'm getting a variety of things.
Basically all the sites I go to are distorted somehow.
Some are not showing up at all, some are showing the server components plus a lot of gobbly-gook. Some do not show images or the images are distorted, some show html code.

What the hell is going on ?
anyone have an idea ? did a windows component fail?
did my pc get hijacked ?

right now I'm running antivirus.
I also cannot connect to windows update site.
anyone have an idea or suggestion ?

That does sound weird, but I'd think a power outage would be more likely to cause hardware problems than software problems.

How have you ruled out hardware damage to one or more of your networking devices from a power surge?

your comment about networking gave me a lead.

I have a dlink router connecting 2 computers, the second one is working fine with no problems.
so I'm going to try re-installing the router.
