I need to connect a third party server equipped with a T1 telephony board to the T1 DTI card of a Nortel PBX. The connection would be T1 [24 DS0s] E&M Wink start: Nortel DTI card - T1 telephony board.

I have some representative configurations for this implementation, but I have some residual questions.

Question 1:

It is my understanding that when a PBX USER dials the Distant Steering Code [DSC] they are routed to the appropriate trunk and further that DSC is presented as the DESTINATION ADDRESS trunk routing digits.

My understanding of the process would be:
a) USER dials the Distant Steering Code
b) The PBX routes the call towards the DTI card
c) The PBX seizes the trunk and the AB [or ABCD] signaling bits on the trunk go high to indicate an off-hook seizure
d) On seeing the off-hook our Server's telephony card will provide a WINK indication.
e) The PBX then presents the Distant Steering Code digits on the circuit.

Is this what occurs - does the PBX wait for the wink from our server before sending the Distant Steering Code digits?

Question 2:
Steering codes all seem to be associated with Co-ordinated Dialing Plans. Are CDPs a standard feature on all Meridian Loads or is this capability only on certain software loads?

Thanks in Advance

question 2.. software load in a merriadian doesn't mean the same as you as used to, i haven't seen a merridian in years without the correct pkg's to add dsc's ld 87 new cdp 0 dsc xxxx.. before those are in you'll need ld 86 new rlb rli x, step down the list and enter the route data block of the the t1, yes it's in the box...

question 1 yes... you don't have the abcd seq exactly right, but after a req.. i see the ack,, (wnk wnk) then i either recieve dial tone from the distant switch or not, depends on choices made.. i send the digits, either as dialed or modified..

Just some additional clarifying questions:

In regards to this comment

"then I either receive dial tone from the distant switch or not, depends on choices made"

The T1 telephone board on our server would not transmit dial tone, so I assume by your comments we can configure the Meridian to establish the circuit in the absence of dial tone from the distant switch [which in this case is my application server].

Actually you provided me with a potential configuration. I understood most of this programming but there were a few option settings I was unclear on. I hope you can clarify
these for me.

FLEN 0
DSP LSC

The Distant Steering code is 1896 hence when a USER dials that code they are routed to the appropriate trunk. I was not clear on the FLEN and DSP parameters.

FLEN 0 // I was not sure how to interpret this Flexible Length Parameter; whether a 0 setting meant the four digits of the Distant Steering Code absolutely had to be dialed, or whether a 4 to match the length of the DSC code would be more appropriate.

DSP LSC //I am not sure what the DSP parameter is, but it looks like it is pointing to a Local steering Code and I just wonder as to the significance of that setting.

Finally on the Route Data Block

PTYP DTT // I don't know what DTT stands for and therefore the signifcance of this parameter setting.

Any additional insights on these parameter settings would be appreciated!

Thanks in Advance
