Hi there,

On a friend's computer, every time he starts his computer up the Display Settings window keeps popping up with the Screen Saver tab selected. Is there anyway to stop this from occurring? Every time it comes up we either click Cancel, or tell it what Screen Saver to use...but each time the computer is rebooted, it re-appears.

Wish I could tell you I've seen this before, but I haven't. Did your friend recently install any kind of screensaver program, or make any other changes around the time this started happening? (Assuming this wasn't always behaving this way...)
Have you check MSCONFIG | Startup and determined if there is anything unusual or unnecessary in there?

Not neccessarily a solution, but I've found that carrying an imcomplete install of anything is because windows didn't accept my answer as the signal to finish.
In this case, tell it what one to use and OK all the way out.
Possibly tell it no screen saver and exit out, then go in again to set it. Ed Fair

Heh. It is possible that my friend installed a screen saver at some time. She is quite "install happy". I have run various Virus Scanners to ensure that it wasn't a virus.

I will check the MSCONFIG StartUp to see if anything unusual is resident.

edfair - I have tried many times to do just that and still no luck. The computer continues to load the display settings window at startup. Not a huge issue, but frustrating none-the-less.

Thanks to both of you for replying with the helpful hints / suggestions. I will let you know what the outcome of this is. Pronunciation: 'lO-kE

Well, I checked the MSConfig and there wasn't anything out of the ordinary that was starting up.

Sigh. /note to self...never let friends install stuff on their own computers. ;) Pronunciation: 'lO-kE
