I have a Compaq PC, O/S Windows 95, I am unable to display the Display Properties, I tried right click on Desktop, nothing happened, I tried it thru the Control Panel, nothing happened. I have to disable my Screen saver in order to run Scan Disk, is there any other way?
Should I try it in Safe Mode?
Thanks

u can disable ur screensaver by

1-Click Start , click Run , type regedt32 , and click OK .
2-Navigate to the following registry key:
3-HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
4-In the details pane (right-side), double-click the SCREENSAVETIMEOUT string value item.
5-In Value data , replace the number 1 with the number 0, and then click OK .

thats it piece of cake

So you can access the control panel? Click start--find--files and search for desk.cpl and doubleclick on it. Does display properties open that way? If not I think you'll need to extract a new desk.cpl file.
