Hello.

We are looking for some software that will allow us to create a disk image of our Windows 2000 and NT servers. The problem we are having when looking for possible solutions is that our servers use a SCSI RAID card and none of the software seem to have the support to be able to load the drivers (which we have) into any restore enviroment they provide. We need to create complete images as to be able to perform bare-metal restores - not just files and folders. Powerquests V2i seems to be suitable but the trial version does not allow you to use the Powerquest Recovery Envoroment (PQRE) which we need to test. Can anyone recommend any imaging software that may provide us the the required fuctionality which is;

1. complete disk image - including partitions (our server has multiple partitons which all need backing up)
2. the images can be made whilst the server is still running
3. the recovery envirment has the ability to load SCSI drivers so the software can see the drive upon which the image(s) would be restored

Many thanks for any replies

I recently got the latest version of Ghost 2003 and was pleasantly surprised to find it supported my Dell Raid 10 and could even write to NTFS partitions locally.

To test it, I ghosted a cluster node that was complete, restored the image and ran sysprep to zap the sids on the second node. It worked perfectly!

However before you get the champagne, be careful, there are serious implications about restoring images of domain controllers, these can be rendered useless or damage your active directory if not restored in the right order. This is because of the tombstone life and syncronisation.

I suggest you do a lot of testing!

Hope this helps

AJ

Hello.

I downloaded the trial version of Ghost 2003 a couple of days ago and tested it today. it didnt seem to work so good. I was taking an image of a remote server, the server rebooted, the ghost form appeared (just before the winlogin window usually appears), it did something for about 10mins - no activity on the machine i was controlling it from tho. then when the server rebooted it said "Missing Operating System"...Hmmm perhaps i wasnt doing it right?

I have tried the Enterprise Ver of Ghost 7.5 (NOT the trial) on a Dell 2650. NO luck! RAID 5 is not supported. I'm still looking! Any other suggestions!

Check out PowerQuest V2i protector - works great
