Hi,

I'm getting an error when re-starting my workstation to complete a software installation: "Disk I/0 Error: Status 00000001 - Windows NT could not start b/c the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\System32\C_1252.nls"

I've checked support.microsoft.com, it says the decrease the boot partition size to < 7.8 gigabytes; how do I do this? And what size should I decrease it to?

Thanks very much in advance for your help.

get sp6, extract atapi.sys to floppy. replace the atapi.sys on the boot floppy(first i think) with it or during setup press f6 and provide floppy with atapi.sys. now you can create boot partition bigger 7.8 gb.
"And what size should I decrease it to?" - after installation you should have at least 25% of free space, more is better, so do it to 12gb!?

1. How are you doing this install? You can't create a boot partition of > 4GB using an NT install CD - so did you create a larger one using other methods/tools? How big is your boot partition?

2. NT install CDs which are pre-SP4 can only access the first 7.8GB of a drive - so if your boot partition is > 7.8GB I'd be surprised that NT install could even start, let alone complete.

The support article you've read may apply to a different situation to yours - but if you want a boot partition that NT can install into, just use its own tools to create one during the install process. Also, if the drive is > 7.8GB, and your install CD is < SP4, you may need this:-
