Hi,
I have been getting errors from one of my disks as follows:-

Nov 4 09:32:10 stratus Error for Command: read Error Level: Recovered
Nov 4 09:32:10 stratus scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Requested Block: 68262 Error Block: 68262
Nov 4 09:32:10 stratus scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Vendor: FUJITSU Serial Number: 0045M46756

I wasn't able to mount some file systems on the disk so went into format and did a read on the disk which seemed to resolve the problem. However, the errors have come back - is it worth trying the repair option from format or do I just need a new disk?

Server is an E450 running Solaris 8 and Veritas Volume Manager.

Can you fsck any of the filesystems? However, it looks to me like a new disk might be the eventual solution.

it depends on the frequency the error occurs; if there is an error every 15 Minutes, it's worth to get a new Disk...
If there is just one error in one day I would keep the disk.

BTW: there is a Software from Sun (freeware) called StorageADE (?), it sends a warning afaik if there are 8 Disk errors within 24h...

Best Regards, Franz

check out the level of errors on the drive with: iostat -En /dev/dsk/c?t?d?s2

If the number of errors are high then you're probably into a new disk...in fact I'd probably swap this one out asap!
