Need help! I built a new computer that since day 1 wants to reboot every so often. The problem is that when it tries to come back up, I get "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". Sometimes I can let it sit on for a day before this happens. And it usually takes rebooting several times before I can get windows back up and running. It runs great, when it runs. I have replaced the HD with another new one, and also replaced the cable from the drive to the MB. This still happens. Any suggestions?

First off, we need a lot more info, on your power supply, mobo, os, etc.
First thoughts would be a bad power supply.
But there is a setting in windows xp, i am guessing you are using xp. You can set xp to not reboot on error as it may be doing this.
You also could have picked up a virus if you were on the net. By the sound of what you say its not a virus but you have to rule things out one at a time to find the problem.
So go to trend-micro and run an online scan. Only run the first one, not the other 2 that they offer.

I run avg as well but they miss a lot of trojans and worms and trend-micro is good at that.
This info is not only good for your troubleshooting now but you want to run an online scan once every week or 2. At some point in the future i can almost guarantee you that trendmicro will find what avg wont!
Course it depends on how much you use the net and where you go. There are safe places and there are not so safe places, something to do with w...z is a good one, lol.
But you can even pick bad stuff up in good places too.

You might want to check out your power supply. You need a multimeter, digital or analog, they are real cheap. You can get a good tutorial for power supplies at techrepublic.com. Its a great professional place, you do have to sign up but they never email you, ever, so its worth it just to get the tutorial for power supplies.
