I have 2 disconnected mailboxes in Exchange 2003. When I try to connect the mailbox to an account I get the following error. "The operation cannot be performe because the mailbox was already connected to an existing user." c1034ad6
Is there a way I can determine which user account the mailbox thinks it is attached to?

Thanks for any help.

right click on the mailboxes store that contains the users mailbox and run Clean Up wizard. do this a few times it takes seconds.. try and reconnect the account.. if you get the same error do this.

The user account that is supposed to be connected to it. Open the properties in AD and see if you can see the exchange tabs' YES... then right click on the users account (from a Server/PC that have the exchange tools installed) and from exchange tasks remove exchange attributes. ok to warning..

run cleanup agent on the mailbox store again and reconnect the mailbox this should work.. remember after you reconnect an account it will take a while for the user to appear in the GAL.. you can speed this up by right clicking on you receipent update policy and select rebuild. tells you that it can take a few hours..

this should work..

There is no way for me to tell which account it is connected to. Do you know of a way to do this?

I guess you could look in the Mailbox folder in the ESM to see who was the last person to log on the account? <shrug>.

The last account to log on to the mailbox was the migration account. Their doesn't seem to be a way to determine what account owns the mailbox.
