Disappearing Report

Hi Everybody,

At one of our client's site, this one report keeps disappearing after we try to run the report. It acts like it wants to run, but disappears. The reports are on a 2003 server. Any ideas would be appreciative.

Please provide more details...

1.) What version of Crystal Reports and/or Crystal Enterprise are you running?

2.) How are your users viewing/running these reports?
- Crystal Reports application on desktop
- Through Crystal Enterprise ePortfolio
- Through a Crystal viewer within your application

3.) Is this specific to a single report or all reports?

4.) What is the datasource for these reports?

5.) Any error messages upon the failure?

6.) Provide a specific step-by-step on the how this failure happens.

Thanks for your reply. Ok here goes.

1) The CR version is Crystal Reports 8 developer edition.

2) I was trying to run it from crystal itself.

3) This is the only report that is working like that. The other reports run just fine from Crystal.

4) The data Source is MS SQL Server 2000.

5) No error message the report just disappears.

6) I gave a specific description of what happened when I tried to run the report in Crystal.

This report is normally run via the web along with the rest. I was hoping someone had seen this problem before and had some suggestions. I apologise for the confusion.

What does it mean when you say it acts like it wants to run? Also, when you say it disappears, what do you mean? Does Crystal close? When you click on the Window menu, is this report listed at the bottom as an open report?

Thanks for your reply. What I mean when I say "the report acts like it wants to run" is it appears it is going to go the the preview screen for about 2 seconds then it closes. No, it is not in the task bar at the bottom of the screen as an open report. I guess the proper description is the report closes. Thanks again for your reply.

So the who Crystal Reports 8 application closes after a few seconds - and you have to restart the application?

If that's the case, it sounds like you have something within the report content that is causing the problem.

Since this only takes place at "one client site", I will assume that this same report runs fine at other sites running Crystal Reports 8 against a similar MS-SQL database.

I would compare the specific version of Crystal Reports that are being run at a location where it runs OK vs. this location where it fails. Use the HELP ---> ABOUT to find the specific version number.

If they are different...you may need to download the current HotFix for CR 8 from the Crystal support site and make sure they are the same.
