Since reinstalling Windows 98 over my existing install I am experiencing problems with my Lexmark 5700 Printer. I have Uninstalled/Reinstalled the drivers but when I reboot the printer has disappeared from the printer Folder and I am requested to reinstall them again. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ok, haven't seen this problem before, but since nobody's helped you, I suppose I better. Now, let me get this straight - when you reboot, it asks you to install the printer, because it's plug and play, right? well, cancel that window, and add it yourself in the printers dialog box. that should help. Make sure you note ALL messages hat appear, as some messages are cleverly discuised as "This installation Failed" which often happens with windows.

Now, what I'm curious about is why did you install over the top of windows?? That will simply take up more space, and believe me, more people suffer problems from that - Windows was never capable of being flexable.

What I recommend before you continue doing the printer thing is a wipe and install. If all your irreplacable data and windows are on one drive, it might not be wise to format, however, you may wish to get to a command prompt and type DELTREE C:\WINDOWS [/b} - make sure you remove everything from the desktop first.

If you're still having trouble after this, or need more help, Write back or drop us an email (address below)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advise Rahn, in the meantime I have delved into my registry and deleted anything relating to Lexmark. I reinstalled the Printer last night and have had no problems since. If the problem resurfaces I will try your advice. Thanks again.
