hey im running a 700mhz Duron Machine w 256mb ram. I got a magically disappearing CDROM drive, its a samsung 48x (SC-148f). It appears on the bios auto-scan everytime but windows2k bearly sees it at all. it shows up in my computer etc, but usually says "E:\ is not Accessable". I have run the same PC under 98se, ME, 2k and xp pro. All cannot see the drive properly. Heres my IDE listing:

Primary Master: 20gig Samsung HDD
Primary Slave: None
Secondary Master: LG CDR/RW 8x4x32x
Secondary Slave: Samsung 48x CD ROM (affected drive)

I have had this drive running as primary slave, secondary master and slave in the past, none have worked and YES i have got the jumpers right before someone says something!

Any Clues? Thanks
Greg Case

P.s. i have updated the firmaware to the latest

As you have the same problems under different operating systems it nearly has to be hardware. Most probably the drive as you have moved it between the primary and secondary controllers. I assume you have also tried different cables. Easiest way to find out is to try it in another system, if it works there it is your system, if it doesn't its the drive.
